As a songwriter, music has always been important to me and our community in Phoenix, AZ. Over the course of the 10-day Student Church Planting eXperience in Arizona, we took a few nights to go take music to the streets. The first time we did this we met a guy who was playing guitar and our friend Daniel started rapping along. They made a whole song together and Daniel essentially shared the gospel through rap. A few nights later we went out again and some friends and I played worship, writing it as we go and singing whatever we felt. It wasn’t spectacular, it was just us worshiping God and trying to stay in the same key! But passersby began to stop and tell us we sounded great. Through these interactions we got to meet and pray for people. These two situations brought me to a realization that our music was blessed. Blessed, meaning that it was sweet to the ears beyond normal expectation because God was putting a little something extra in it.
Because of our experience with music and creative outreach at the SCPX training, music became integrated into the everyday life of our community. We are learning to inspire one another into the glorious adventure of following Jesus!
